Penland School of Craft Annual Benefit Auction
The Benefit Auction is Penland School of Craft’s major annual fundraiser, supporting our mission of Making Lives Meaningful Through Making. A joyous and festive celebration of craft, community, and all things Penland, we will welcome collectors, curators, artists, and friends from far and wide.
Hundreds of people and organizations come together to create the Penland Benefit Auction. It is a huge undertaking and a labor of love.

2022’s 37th Annual Penland Benefit Auction was a great success!
- $394,959.65 was raised!
- An additional $105,500 was raised to fund an upgrade of Penland’s ventilation systems in the hot glass shop and flameworking studios in honor of the United Nations International Year of Glass.

Outstanding Artist Educator: MARK PEISER
During his extraordinary, forty-five-year career as a glass artist Mark Peiser has produced a number of distinct bodies of work.
Each new phase of his career has produced new aesthetic expressions and also presented technical challenges that Mark has taken on with dedication and determination.
Through this work, he has acquired knowledge that he has shared freely as a teacher and mentor.
Mark was one of the founders of the Glass Art Society; he has taught workshops at Penland, Haystack, Pilchuck, and other schools; and his work is in prominent museum collections around the world.

Over 150 artists donated over 200 works to the 2022 Penland Benefit Auction! Contributing artists represent a vibrant community of makers, each one having lived among us as an instructor, a resident artist, or a core fellow.
