It’s a Family Act!

We like to think of Penland as a family-friendly place all year ’round, but during second session this summer, we were treated to an unusually large number of families co-teaching workshops.

In the hot glass studio, brothers Einar and Jamex de la Torre brought a shared Liberal Bias to the combination of mixed media and blown glass.

In upper textiles, Charllote Kwon and her daughter Sophena (pictured here with student Rachael Goolsby) shared their multi-generational approach to Natural Dyes.

And in the lower clay studio, identical twin brothers Kyle and Kelly Phelps upped the ante on togetherness, arriving in identical cars and dressing identically every day as they showed their students the ins and outs of Figure Narrative: Clay as Process.
