Are you interested in a work exchange?

  • These scholarships cover housing, meals, and partial tuition.
  • They require students to work up to 20 hours per week, plus 8 hours the day before the workshop begins.
  • All job assignments will be in The Pines Dining Hall and will be determined after you arrive. Assignments will involve kitchen or dining hall duties such as setting up for meals, food preparation, dish washing, or clean-up of pots and pans.

Physical Requirements: The work requirement jobs require manual labor. The physical requirements for this position are as follows: you must be able to walk unaided, bend, stoop, reach above you head, have use of fine and gross motor skills, and work in close quarters. You must be able to work standing up for up to 4 hours at a time and occasionally to lift and/or move heavy objects weighing up to 75 pounds. You must have normal visual acuity at near and far distance with correction and hear the spoken word with correction. You must be proficient in English.

If you have physical limitations that we need to be aware of, please let us know when you apply so we may take them into consideration when assigning your work study position.

 

Tuition:

  • Session 3: $824, due upon acceptance
  • Session 4: $824, due upon acceptance
  • Processing fee: $25
  • Room and board: included with scholarship (hostel dorm)

Work requirement: 20 hours/week helping in The Pines dining hall, plus 8 hours on Saturday before the session begins.

Arrival:

  • Session 3:  Saturday, June 17 by 9 AM
  • Session 4:  Saturday, July 3 by 9 AM

Departure:

  • Session 3:  Friday, June 30 at 10 AM
  • Session 4:  Friday, July 14 at 10 AM

Are you a teacher in K-12 or higher education?

  • This scholarship is available to all K-12 teachers and college, university, or community college faculty.
  • The scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee; regular housing and meal charges apply.
  • Applicants will be asked to provide proof of current employment.

Fees:

  • Session 3 tuition:  $928, due upon acceptance
  • Session 4 tuition:  $928, due upon acceptance
  • Processing fee: $50
  • Housing and meal fees: see chart below.

Arrival:

  • Session 3: Sunday, June 18, 1:00-4:45 PM
  • Session 4: Sunday, July 3, 1:00-4:45 PM

Departure:

  • This scholarship is available to residents of Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, and Yancey counties in North Carolina and Carter, Cocke, Greene, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington counties in Tennessee.
  • The scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee;  regular housing and meal charges apply.
  • Applicants will be asked to provide proof of qualifying residency.

Eligibility

  • Scholarships are first come-first served.
  • Only workshops listed on this page are eligible.
  • Scholarships are for applicants taking unfilled spaces at the last minute.
  • Students already enrolled in one of the workshops listed on this page may not apply for these scholarships.
  • Students enrolled in other summer 2023 workshops may not transfer their enrollment to apply.

Other Costs
