Marvin Jensen – Bakersville, NC
Marvin received his MFA from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 1979. He began teaching at Penland School in 1980, and has taught many times since – his most recent class in 2013.
In addition to many workshops, Marvin also taught at Rochester Institute of Technology, Parsons School of Design, and Purdue University.
Marvin is known as a multi-faceted metal-smith whose specialties include the traditional Japanese layered metal technique called mokume-gane, anodized aluminum lighting and furniture, and a comprehensive use of stainless steel. He has been in more than seventy-five invitational and competitive exhibitions and his work is included in the permanent collections of RISD, the Mint Museum of Craft + Design, and the North Carolina Museum of Art. Marvin’s mechanical, technical, and design skills in his machine shop also extends to fabricating equipment used in neuroscience research.
