Gum Bichromate over Platinum/Palladium
What could be more stunning than the long tonal range of a platinum/palladium photographic print or the interpretive beauty made using gum bichromate? How about a combination of the two? In this workshop we will explore the beauty and unique qualities of these two archival 19th century photographic printing processes. Using digital negatives made from your images, we will first learn to hand-coat paper and print with platinum/palladium. Then we will cover the basics of the gum bichromate process, adding a layer (or layers) of gum to those same platinum/palladium prints. The combination offers more depth, dimension, and a subtle color wash, creating prints that are undefinable. Join me for the fun of learning these two printing techniques and how to combine them. We will cover producing digital negatives tuned for these processes. No prior experience needed for this workshop, which welcomes all levels from beginners to experienced practitioners.
