 Cocktail Recipes

Created by Penland’s favorite bartender, David Ramsey

For many years, David Ramsey has brought his creativity to bear at the Penland Benefit Auction, creating inspiring cocktails to celebrate the occasion. This year will be no different, and you can build these craft cocktails at home with David’s guidance!

Be sure to check out the below ingredients for your shopping list!

Penland Pair

3 oz pear-flavored vodka
1 oz St-Germain elderflower liqueur
1/2 oz simple syrup
11/2 oz lime juice
2 oz white cranberry juice

Start by adding ice and water to your favorite martini or “Nick and Nora” glass and allow to chill. Into a cocktail shaker add ice, pear-flavored vodka, elderflower liqueur, simple syrup, lime juice, and cranberry juice. Shake it up! Strain contents into your chilled glass. Garnish with a slice of pear. Yum!

For simple syrup: Add 1 cup of sugar to 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and stir until all the sugar has dissolved. Remove from the heat and allow to cool. Pour into a plastic squeeze bottle and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

Enjoy with a friend.

Grassy Knoll

4 oz English dry gin (Bombay, Brokers, etc.)
1 oz St-Germain elderflower liqueur
1 oz lemongrass-infused simple syrup
1/2 oz lemon juice
1/2 oz lime juice
Club soda
Rosemary
Cucumber

In a cocktail shaker add ice, gin, elderflower liqueur, simple syrup, lemon juice, and lime juice. Shake it up! Pour contents into an ice filled Collins glass. Top with club soda. Stir gently. Garnish with a sprig of Rosemary and a slice of cucumber. Refreshing!

For lemongrass-infused simple syrup: Add 1 cup of sugar to 1 cup of water in a small sauce pan. Bring to a boil and stir until all the sugar has dissolved. Remove from the heat. Meanwhile, take a stalk of lemongrass, trim ends, remove tough outer layer, cut into several 3 to 4-inch pieces. Wrap in plastic wrap and pound with a meat tenderizer or back of a chef’s knife to bruise the lemongrass and release the oils. Add the bruised lemongrass to the dissolved syrup and steep for about 1 hour. Strain into a plastic squeeze bottle and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

Enjoy with a friend.

Playlist

Our cocktail party host Corey Pemberton has put together a fun playlist just for this occasion. Download it here to play at home or check it out on Spotify so we can all vibe together.

Zoom Backgrounds

Pick a favorite spot in your home for the affair—this is a great opportunity to show off pieces from previous Penland auctions!

We’ve also created a collection of Penland backgrounds shot in some of our favorite locations for those who would rather join us “from campus.” Download these Penland backgrounds for the party!

Note: Zoom backgrounds only work on some computers without a green screen behind you. Here’s a video that might help if you want to try to use a background: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ehd-VhuPiaE
