Penland School of Craft is an international center for craft education, offering residential workshops, residencies, community education programs, and exhibitions. Position Summary

The Penland Temporary Bookkeeper is a support position for the finance team. This position serves as additional support while there is a transition to a new director of finance and software system.  This position will work with the finance assistant/bookkeeper and the accountant to complete basic bookkeeping, filing, coordinating internal and external accounts payables, and other support duties for the department. This position reports to the finance assistant/bookkeeper and accountant as a part-time (20 – 29 hours per week), non-exempt employee. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Processing accounts payable, including weekly check runs
  • Assisting with other areas of processing, including journal entries, accounts receivable, cash deposits as needed, and time-allows
  • Filing and record management according to generally accepted accounting principles
  • Performing other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Currently studying finance or business or similar work experience
  • Computer bookkeeping experience preferred
  • Basic understanding of double-entry bookkeeping practices and procedures
  • Accuracy and attention to detail, as well as a track record of reliability, confidentiality, and conscientious work habits
  • Working familiarity using  Google and Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Ability to organize and prioritize effectively
  • Ability to interpret data and ask questions
  • Being flexible and open-minded

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and work at a computer. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls and to talk fluently and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

 

Compensation

This is a part-time, temporary position to work 20 -29 hours weekly.  The salary range for this position is  $16.20 – $18.01 and is negotiable based on the skills and experience you bring to the position.
