Penland Standby Program
Residents of Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Granville, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, and Yancey counties in North Carolina and Carter, Cocke, Greene, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington counties in Tennessee who take unfilled spaces in Penland summer classes and fall/spring one-week classes two weeks or less before the first day of the class will receive half-price tuition; regular room and board fees apply. Standby discounts will be available for fall and spring eight-week classes thirty days before the classes begin.
Local residents may apply to workshops through the Standby Program at the link below. There is no charge to fill out a Standby application. The school will then contact them if space is open before the class begins. For more information, call 828-765-2359.
K-12 Teacher’s Standby
Standby is also available (under the same terms as Local Standby) to all K-12 teachers, regardless of where they live. You will be asked to furnish proof of current employment as a teacher.
Higher Education Standby
Standby is also available (under the same terms as Local Standby) to all current college, university, or communty college faculty, regardless of where they live. You will be asked to furnish proof of current employment.
