"Penland was our first home in NC, and was where our children were born. I learned a lot from teaching there, and from meeting the other teachers and seeing their work. The Resident Program really helped me 'get my feet on the ground' with my work, running a studio, making a living.I was able to begin to understand a philosophical basis for my work, beyond the career aspect. Many friendships we made there have lasted to this day, and have formed the basis for the community of craftspeople that we now live in.There remains a connection through a shared history, and a respect for and a connection with other people who have been teachers and residents. I feel fortunate to have been able to live a creative life."
